What does Cruelty-Free mean ?
Cruelty-free is the term used to describe a product that has not been tested on animals – either as a finished product or the ingredients it uses.
The UK was the forerunner in achieving a ban on animal testing in cosmetics production. Testing cosmetic products and their ingredients on animals was banned by the UK in 1998 and the ban became part of EU law in 2013.
The ban came into force mainly because many non-animal methods were developed to test the safety of cosmetics for human use, as well as to prevent unnecessary suffering for animals.
Therefore, no new animal testing is permitted during any phase of product development by the producers, their laboratories, or ingredient suppliers.
